Course Description

The paralegal profession continues to expand both in number of employment opportunities and potential career paths. Having options in this dynamic profession empowers the paralegal. The Environmental Law Specialist Certificate Program is designed to enhance your skill and knowledge about specific areas of the law, increase your value to current employers, and expand your career opportunities. This introductory environmental law course will focus on the legal regulation of pollution and waste management. A number of federal environmental statutes will be covered including the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and the Superfund law. As a paralegal you will also be learning issues related to environmental regulation, the role of science and risk assessment, the valuation of environmental injury and benefits, and the choice of regulatory approach, ranging from command-and-control regulation to information disclosure requirements. Required coursework includes Administrative Law and Environmental Law. Participants will have the opportunity to choose two elective courses in E-Discovery, Legal Ethics, Laws of Evidence, Advanced Legal Research, and Constitutional Law. This course is taught exclusively online. Participants will receive a Pace University Paralegal Specialist Certificate in Environmental Law.
